A. Course Duration: 2 Days

B. Aim:

    This course provides training concentrating on the functionality and effective use of ECDIS on board.

C. Objective:

    After completing the course, the trainee will be able to demonstrate proficiency in the effective and safe operational use of the type specific ECDIS equipment, proper effective use of ECDIS-related information, awareness of ECDIS-related limitations and knowledge of legal aspects and reponsibilities related to electronic charts.

D. Entry Standards:

    The course is designed for Main Officers in charge of a navigational watch and other deck Main Officers responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel and has completed training in IMO Model Course 1.27 “Electronic Chart Display and Information System”.

E. Teaching Methods:

    The course is between presentations to familiarize the trainee with the menu structure and practical exercises on the actual ECDIS equipment to cement understanding.

    We conduct training on the following ECDIS makers:

    • TRANSAS 4000/4100

F. Course Certificate:

    Upon successful completion of the course and assessments, a document will be issued certifying that the holder has successfuly completed a course which meets or exceeds the level of knowledge and competence specified in Table A-II/1-3 as related to ECDIS of STCW code (Manila Amendments).

• Recognition of alarms and malfunctions indicators and the appropriate actions to be taken

• Changing to back-up systems
• Loading and updating of the charts and licenses
